All through wine and food country are the special ambassadors for vineyards, cafes and food producers. These representatives are not always featured on the labels or on the staff list, but they're still an important part of the team and are cherished for the part they play in the business.

At Windy Ridge in Foster, Victoria, Kelly is the wine dog on duty and she's just celebrated her 100th (dog year) birthday.

Vineyard owners Graeme and Georgia Wilson tell us that Kelly was born on the 20th November, 1997 at Mirboo North and from a young age has taken her vineyard duties at Windy Ridge very seriously and loves every minute of life in a winery.

Her primary task is to welcome visitors to the winery in the car park which has a sensational view over Corner Inlet and Wilsons Promonontory. It's a favourite photo spot for visitors so Kelly always offers to pose on the wine barrel to add that distinctive dimension and sense of place to their photos.

She's always loved this aspect of her job but unfortunately as she's now a senior citizen, Kelly can't quite make the jump onto the barrel however Graeme and Georgia are happy to assist by special request.

Of course, everyone has their pet hates (excuse the pun) but Kelly has just one – getting washed. And who could blame her, at her age it might be quite an indignity.

But in her time like all of us, she's had her highs and lows with clever deeds and perhaps moments of regret. Given her vineyard duties, it's no surprise she won second prize at the Foster Show's high jump for dogs a few years ago. And the moment of regret? Maybe the reaction to her leaving deposits under the washing line!

To celebrate her milestone birthday, Graeme and Georgia Wilson are planning to produce a Malbec wine later in the year called K100 in Kelly's honour but in the meantime they invite you to visit the winery and meet Kelly in person, er, make that person to wine dog!

Congratulations and happy birthday Kelly from the VisitVineyards.com team!
