The experience at Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse has dramatically improved following extensive renovations worth over $1 million, largely supported by the Western Australia's s Royalties for Regions program.

Visitors can now enjoy panoramic ocean views from the new observation platform, beautifully landscaped lawns, refreshments from the restored lighthouse keeper’s cottage housing a brand-new café operated by Busselton’s popular restaurant The Goose and a nautical themed playground.

An experience in its own right, the Lighthouse Keeper’s Cottage Café allows you to step back in time and enjoy a good cup of coffee and a bite to eat in one of three charming rooms fitted out with vintage furniture and ornaments. Each room will also feature rotating art displays from local artists.

The café also offers expansive decking, featuring old wooden pylons from the Busselton Jetty, overlooking the playground. Nestled in the playground's sandpit is a 1930’s wooden clipper boat, restored with the assistance of the Dunsborough Men’s Shed.

Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association (MRBTA) Chief Executive Officer, Claire Savage, said “the restoration and protection of the Margaret River region’s historical sites enhances the destination’s reputation as a vibrant place to live and visit, supporting economic growth. We're really proud of the hard work that has gone into improving Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and we are very excited to share this attraction with visitors and our local community.”

The new heritage pass allows you to experience the lighthouse keeper’s cottage, local art gallery as well as the observation deck for just $5. Guided tours of the lighthouse remain an additional cost.

Half-hour guided tours provide a fascinating insight into the functions of the working lighthouse, the history of the local area and several ghost stories that will send tingles down your spine! Running every half an hour from 9.30am to 4.30pm daily ($15 per adult). These entry fees go towards preserving the region’s natural and historical assets for future generations.

A new interactive interpretive centre, housed in the remaining lighthouse keepers’ cottage, is scheduled to open July 2018.

Lighthouse background

Only 13 kilometres from Dunsborough, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse and cottages reveal the fascinating maritime history of Geographe Bay. Built from limestone quarried from nearby Bunker Bay, at its highest point the lighthouse is 123 metres above sea level.

Forecast visitation at Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is expected to equal the 110,000 per year who visit Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse.
