Blizzard Brewing Company is one of the craft breweries that make up the Victorian High Country Brewery Trail. And it's the highest.

Actually at 1550m above sea level, it's the highest brewery in the country and both the location and ingredients were all part of the founder's plan.

Where is it?

Dinner Plain is in Victoria's High Country, in the state's north east. It's a village of distinctive architecture set upon the country's only freehold land above the snowline.

Blizzard Brewing at Cattle Pen Drive is just 50m from the Cobungra ski lift and 10km from Mt Hotham.

Who is it?

Founder Mark Hubbard grew up in Colorado (USA) where breweries and ski resorts have shared the slopes of the Rocky Mountains and many an amber ale (or lager) for decades. He thought Australian skiers and boarders would embrace the on-site craft beer experience as well. He's right.

Mark's favourite beer – like a good father, he doesn't have favourite children!  He likes the taste of each of the beers for the variety they represent, and quite literally, always pour himself one from the tap that is different from the one he had before!

And favourite season – Spring because as the days start to get longer there is good skiing to be had in sunny conditions, and the road and mountain bikes can come out again so you can ski and cycle in the same day, and the promise of warmer weather is around the corner.

Why the name?

The locale perhaps?

What is Blizzard Brewing known for?

Apart from its location, the brewery uses snow melt from the high altitude aquifers of Dinner Plain as the purest source of water for its brews and is also a active member of the High Country Brewery Trail.

The beers they brew round here:

  • Brandy Creek Kolsch
  • 1550 Lager
  • Powder Pale Ale
  • Avalanche Amber Ale
  • Ice Horse IPA
  • Lavender Lager
  • Bladerunner Belgian Pale
  • Summit Stout
