Food lovers unite and get on down to Bridge Road, Richmond as proud traders showcase their diverse array of food and wine experiences by hosting A Global Gathering – a celebration of cultural diversity – on Sunday 1 March, 2015 as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival presented by Bank of Melbourne.

A non-ticketed event open to all, Bridge Road will come alive to sizzling sounds and enticing aromas from over 35 participating restaurants, pubs, cafes and bars, showcasing the very best Richmond’s most famous strip has to offer.

This will be a sensory experience with music, DJs, cooking demonstrations, tastings and roving entertainers creating energy and vibe.  And the kids haven’t been forgotten with a face painter adding colour and creativity.

A Global Gathering will kick off at 11am until 4pm when the street will come alive from Punt Road to the Yarra River.

Curious food lovers will head to one of three ‘hubs’ on Bridge Road to pick up their free A Global Gathering passport that will list all participants, their specially designed tasting place for the day plus a map of the strip to keep them on track.

The first time that Bridge Road has held its own, stand-alone event as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, A Global Gathering has been embraced by local traders with the cooking specialists Harvey Norman coming on board as a supporter of the event, donating prizes, running cooking demonstrations and getting behind the push to highlight Bridge Road’s culinary credentials.

The idea is to journey along Bridge Road – either by foot, on the tram (bring your myki!) or flag down one of the free tuk tuks running up and down.

Purchase a tasting plate at any of the participating restaurants that takes your fancy and at each stop you will receive a stamp in your passport.  Any passport with at least four stamps is valid to enter the draw via an entry box at each participating venue, to win a $3000 kitchen appliance package from supporters, Harvey Norman.

Tasting plates will start at $5 and there will be cooking demonstrations, free sampling, roving entertainment and even market stalls along the way to create a festive, global atmosphere.

Showcasing food from around the globe, A Global Gathering will tempt tastebuds.  From American BBQ to Asian to Austrian; from Modern Mediterranean to Classic Europe and down to Mexico, there’s an array of cuisines and flavours to tempt every curious palate.  There will definitely be something for everyone.
