The results are in for the Autumn programme of the Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards (RMFFA), conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV), following rigorous critique and assessment of 351 fine food entries from 115 exhibitors in six categories; Chocolate, Fresh Produce featuring Garlic, Pantry Goods, Pasta, Table Olives and Cider & Perry.

Victorian producers lead the way, winning eight of the 14 major trophies awarded. Tasmania and South Australia each took out two trophies, while Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory both received one each.

Champion Easter Egg or Chocolate winners for 2015, Shocolate, received a total of five medals including three Gold. Two Gold medals were awarded in the new Easter Chocolate class for their handcrafted Psychedelic Dozen Eggs and Medium Eggs.

On the win, Pamela Raschella from Shocolate said, “Entering these awards has been a fantastic experience. What a great way to wear your heart on your sleeve and put your passion to the test. Winning is a recognition of the outstanding effort, discipline, determination and creativity of our entire workforce.

It is a fantastic way for our brand to showcase our passion for handcrafted couverture chocolate, with the medals and trophy received helping to raise awareness and confidence in our growing consumer base”.

Judges this year were impressed with the entries received and continue to stress the importance of the programme as it highlights Australia’s best produce items, increases the exposure to consumers and celebrates excellence.

Chocolate judge, Pierrick Boyer said, “The quality of the product entered was great. I think it’s important to have awards like that of the Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards to promote Australia’s best food. Winning a Gold medal provides businesses with a useful marketing tool too.”

Champion Garlic (Fresh Produce) was awarded to Tasmanian Gourmet Garlic’s Dunganski, with the producers awarded four gold medals overall.

Garlic judge Penny Woodward said, "We were really pleased with the quality of the entries this year, despite it being a difficult year from some growers. The entries were a real showcase of some of the beautiful garlics available in Australia. The new Organic category resulted in some very high quality entries and we were also particularly pleased to also see entries from some of the more unusual garlic groups such as Creoles, Standard Purple Stripes, Silverskins and even a true Rocambole."
