Geelong vineyard, Leura Park Estate has been awarded a contract to supply Qantas international Business Class with its renowned 25 d’Gris, hand-picked 2010 pinot gris.

The contract is the second time Leura Park Estate has won an invited tender to supply Qantas international Business Class. The vineyard was awarded the invited tender for its 2008 vintage 25 d’Gris pinot gris in 2009.

More than 200 wineries from around Australia were invited to submit wines for consideration for the Qantas international Business Class wine list.

“We are ecstatic to have our wine – and the Geelong/Bellarine region – showcased to Australia and the world via Qantas,” said Lyndsay Sharp, Director of Leura Park Estate.

“The Bellarine is such a dynamic viticultural area – to be able to promote our wine and this great part of Victoria to the world is very exciting and incredibly gratifying,” she said.

Mrs Sharp said the quality of the pinot gris had been reinforced by recently taking out a coveted gold medal in the prestigious Wine Spirits Asia Wine Challenge 2012 held in April, in Singapore.

“More than 700 wines from around the world were entered in the Singapore show, it’s very encouraging to receive recognition at this level of international comparison.”

Mrs Sharp said the pinot gris was estate grown, hand-picked and one of several signature Leura Park Estate wines.

“The wine is a credit to our vineyard manager, Andrew Mahoney and the winemaking team of Ray Nadeson, Darren Burke and Nyall Condon.”

“Made in a traditional French style, our 2010 25 d’Gris involved two late picks and is a classic depiction of a truly delicious pinot gris.It boasts fresh flower and pear scents with a hint of wood spice. Elegant acids are accentuated by guava and pear notes with a rich, mineral backbone.”

Leura Park Estate 25 d’Gris pinot gris 2010 retails for $30. Whilst the vast majority of the wine will be delivered to Qantas, there are limited stocks remaining at the Leura Park Estate Cellar Door which is open on weekends (10.30 – 5pm), 1400 Portarlington Road, Curlewis.

Other wines in the Leura Park Estate stable include sparkling blanc de blanc, sparkling pinot chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinot noir, shiraz and cabernet sauvignon.
