High above the Tamar River sits a lookout with views across the meandering waters below and across the surrounding hills. Now a favourite spot for tourists, it was once where bushranger Matthew Brady kept watch for the ship that was to be his escape, and so bears his name.

It's also the name of a Tasmanian cider with its home amongst the vineyards producing premium cool climate wines. Here too cider-makers Chris and Caroline Brown also follow a time honoured wine-making style, but apply it to their Tasmanian apples and pears by dedicating all their production to the methode traditionelle (sparkling) style.

Enjoy these tasting note for two styles from Brady's Lookout Cider:

Brady’s Lookout 2015 Tasmanian Premium Cuvee Cider

This cider is crafted in the Methode Traditionelle (sparkling) style from a special crafted blend of the first premiuim Tasmanian apples (85%) and pears (15%) of the season, along with a cultured yeast.

It is gold in colour with creamy mousse and has a lovely floral apple blossom nose. There is baked apple crumble and spicy flowers with a hit of sweetness from the pear on the palate.

The cider finishes with an attractive dryness working with the tannin and well-balanced acidity.

Kerry's verdict: after tasting these ciders at a function, Kerry's ordered a half case. They were fresh and well balanced with their own distinct style and make a great alternative to sparkling wine. Deeeelicious!
