Cape Jaffa Wines pioneered biodynamic vineyard management in the Mount Benson wine region, on South Australia's Limestone Coast, in 1993. Since then, it has produced a range of elegant and complex cool-climate wines that showcase the best of this new and exciting wine region.
A free-spirited sense of adventure led the Hooper family to the wild, windswept shores of Cape Jaffa in 1993. Trailbreakers rather than traditionalists, the Hooper’s have made their own way, creating a vineyard in harmony with the environment and life. Hard work, passion and professionalism is poured into every vintage, helped along by morning surfs, crayfish, beach walks and bonfires.
Anna and Derek Hooper intuitively hand craft all wines using a combination of old and new world techniques, drawing from their experiences at a number of world-renowned French wineries across Burgundy, Bordeaux and the Rhone Valley.
The rustic cellar door was built from local and recycled materials and overlooks 32 hectares under vine. The complex also includes an underground barrel hall cut into the side of a limestone ridge, creating a means to moderate temperature and humidity without any additional energy requirements.
Open 7 says a week, Monday to Sunday, the cellar door offers current vintage wine tastings, as well as organically-grown almonds, their own olive oil and related Cape Jaffa merchandise for sale.
Stop by for a tasting or make use of their barbeque facilities while taking in the panoramic views of the surrounding hinterland. Groups please book in advance.
