Kondalilla Falls on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland

Serenity Falls, Buderim, Queensland

There’s something about waterfalls that attracts us; the movement, the ceaseless yet rhythmic murmuring of water flowing, the serenity, and the reminder that everything starts and ends somewhere, but the journey is what makes it interesting.

Or maybe it’s just because they’re pretty to look at!

Whatever the attraction, the Sunshine Coast has an abundance of waterfalls; from hidden streams that flow near country roads, to better-known and well-documented cascades that are always putting on a show.

Many are in national parks where you can scan the skies for the peregrine falcons, listen for the eastern whip bird, booming fruit dove and frogs croaking amongst the rockpools and cool rainforests. Take in the views across mountain tops, deep gorges and the lush forests that protect rare and threatened plants and animals. Or simply sit by the water, gaze into the ripples and let nature wrap around you.

Sound relaxing? Then make sure some of these are on your list to see when you visit the Sunshine Coast:

  • Serenity Falls in Buderim Forest Park
  • Kondalilla Falls in Montville
  • Gardners Falls in Maleny
  • Mapleton Falls, Gheerulla Falls and Baxter Falls in Mapleton
  • Booloumba Falls in the Kenilworth State Forest
  • Mothar Mountain Rock Pools in Woondum National Park.
