The Rainforestation Nature Park, located in Kuranda, has launched a new activity within the Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience, the Bush Tucka Walk, as part of the attraction’s 40 year birthday celebrations in 2016.

The 30-minute walk offers guests the opportunity to learn about the rainforest plants and fruits used as traditional food and medicine by indigenous people, as well as sample some of the fruits in the BBQ Buffet Lunch offered at Rainforestation Nature Park.

The Bush Tucka Walk was built by William Enoch-Tranby with the help of other Pamagirri Guides at Rainforestation Nature Park.

Mr Enoch-Tranby said the walk was authentic and allowed guests to understand more about how his ancestors had lived in the rainforest. “Our guides explain the different plants and fruits, but also the calendar plants that were used to indicate when to move to the coast, or when to eat a certain animal or fish,” he explains.

“Guests can also learn about the different types of huts that were used as shelter, and the weapons and implements that were used in hunting and everyday life.”

The Bush Tucka Walk can be experienced by the public as an add-on experience, or as part of the Premium Pamagirri Aboriginal Experience day tour.
