Australian Women in Wine Awards 2017 Winners in London

For the first time ever, women in Australian wine will gather together for the inaugural Australian Women in Wine Symposium & Awards Day, at Quay Restaurant in Sydney from 9am- 4pm on Friday 16th November.

Following on from the success of London last year, where 60 women in wine flew over to be part of an historic trade tasting and awards day, the 2018 event is the first time the AWIWA have celebrated an awards event at home. And, in another first, the 2018 awards presentation has been combined with a half day symposium designed to help equip, energise and celebrate women in wine.

The morning sessions will comprise of a series of keynote speakers and interactive workshops. Then, over a three-course lunch prepared by Quay’s chefs matched with wines and overlooking views of Sydney Harbour, the 2018 Australian Women in Wine Awards will be presented.

The awards ceremony will also be live-streamed to the world at 2pm via Facebook Live on the ‘Australian Women in Wine’ Facebook page. As in previous years, all wine industry peers and colleagues are encouraged to host their own viewing parties around the country to cheer on the 2018 finalists and winners, and to celebrate all the achievements of Australian women in wine over the past year!

The AWIWA Advisory Board have lined up an impressive array of speakers from both within, and outside of, the wine industry to share their expertise and experience with attendees. They include:

  • Rebecca Hopkins, A Balanced Glass
  • Cathi Scarce, Coles Liquor
  • Dr. Gemma Munro, Inkling Women
  • The Hon Justice Margaret Beazley AO, President, Court of Appeal of New South Wales

The following day, Saturday 17th November, the AWIWA has worked with Revel Global (the people behind Pinot Palooza and Game of Rhones) to create Daughters of Winearchy - the not-for-profit consumer event showcasing women in wine that's set to take Sydney by storm. Over 100 wines will be on tasting in a range of different styles and varietals, from 11am – 4pm at Petersham Town Hall.

Registrations for the Australian Women in Wine Symposium & Awards Day are available via www.WomeninWineAwards.com.au

Tickets for Daughters of Winearchy are available at www.DaughtersofWinearchy.com  Plus expressions of interest to be involved are still being accepted. Interested wineries should contact anna@revel.global.

ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN WOMEN IN WINE AWARDS:
Now in its fourth year, the Australian Women in Wine Awards (AWIWA) – which were started in 2015 - are the first and (still) the only awards platform for women in wine. AWIWA celebrate and reward the work of women in the Australian wine community, and community leaders who champion equality and fairness for all sexes in the workplace.

The awards are owned and operated by The Fabulous Ladies’ Wine Society and conducted with the assistance of an advisory board of industry leaders. Previous winners include Prue Henschke (Viticulturist of the Year, 2016), Sue Hodder (Woman of Inspiration, 2017) and Virginia Willcock (Winemaker of the Year, 2017)

The awards are entirely funded by sponsorship. This year’s Gold Partners include CRU, Vintrace, Pernod-Ricard Winemakers and Wine Business Magazine.
