Shaw Vineyard Estate is a family owned winery located just off the Barton Highway towards Yass, only 40 minutes north of Canberra. This impressive 700 acre property in the Canberra wine region is the largest privately owned vineyard holding in the area.

The property formerly known as ‘Olleyville’ historically produced some of Australia’s finest wool. Nowadays, some 85 acres (32ha) are planted to vine including riesling, semillon, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz on the property’s most optimal vineyard sites.

The property’s elevation at around 640 metres above sea level is higher than most vineyards in the Murrumbateman area and gives this former fine wool production facility an upper hand when growing fruit onsite and producing wine. The high elevation combined with the sloping profile of the land helps to mitigate against potential frost damage by allowing good air drainage over the property. This in turn with warm days and cool nights has helped Shaw Vineyard Estate maintain its enviable pedigree for wine production.

Shaw Vineyard Estate has a fabulous cellar door restaurant, Flint in the Vines. Restaurateur Grant Kells of Canberra hot spot ‘Flint Dining Room and Bar’, and sommelier Jai Dawson formerly of Sydney’s Longrain took over the restaurant at Shaw Vineyard Estate’s spectacular Murrumbateman property on the 14th April. Ideally situated on the picturesque property with a smart yet informal ambiance overlooking the vineyard estate, the restaurant will easily lend itself to the same high quality dining experience that Flint has become known for.

Shaw Vineyard Estate has had some great success recently at a number of international wine shows. Owner and vigneron Graeme Shaw and winemaker Bryan Currie were awarded gold, silver, bronze medals and commendations from judges at the highly acclaimed International Wine Challenge (London), Decanter World Wine Awards (London) and the WSA Wine Challenge (Singapore).

Long before the Shaw Vineyard Estate wines were launched, Graeme and his family had an association with Camp Quality, each year donating to this fabulous cause. In the past 18 years the Shaw family have raised in excess of $500,000 to Camp Quality, Australia’s leading children’s cancer charity. In an effort to turn the passion of making wine into something that will enrich the lives of others, the Shaw family have launched a new brand of wine especially made for Camp Quality which aims to raise the much needed funds and laughter for families and children living with cancer, namely - ‘The Laughter Series’. For every case which is purchased, the $50 profit that is made is given directly back to Camp Quality where the funds are used to brighten the day of families and kids living with cancer.

The stunning, award-winning cool climate wines of Shaw Vineyard Estate are definitely putting Murrumbateman and the Canberra region on the map as an area dedicated to producing premium quality, fantastic tasting wines.
