Australian Wine Annual 2015 by Jeremy Oliver

Jeremy Oliver, one of Australia’s most respected wine critics, has released the 2015 edition of his best-selling guidebook The Australian Wine Annual. It’s now also available in e-Book form, as well as in Mandarin Chinese.

This book provides a health check on the Australian wine industry and nominates without fear or favour the best Australian wine at each and every price point.

In the 2015 edition Oliver also:

  • Selects the remarkable Giaconda Estate Shiraz 2012 as his Wine of the Year.  With a rating of 98 points, this exceptional shiraz sits neatly amongst the very finest from the Rhône Valley in France, he says.
  • Focuses on the essential role played by the Australian wine in the regional economy. Describing wine as the ‘X-Factor’ in regional tourism, Oliver says that the business and employment opportunities provided by wine sustain many rural areas that could otherwise be basket cases.
  • Reveals his concerns that the burgeoning online market for wine faces a huge challenge to do more than just drive down wine prices.
  • Reviews the ongoing issue of the possible foreign ownership of Australia’slargest quality company, TWE, owner of brands like Penfolds and Wynns.
  • Selects exactly half of his Top 10 Wines of the Year from Victoria. Home town bias, or are Victorian winemakers actually doing something right?
  • Notes that Italian noble grape varieties are finally starting to make their mark in Australia.
  • Observes that the top end of Australian wine is expanding quickly. A record 29 Australian wines have garnered a 5 star ranking – the highest accolade.
